Tensor tympani
Hey guys, I’ve never written a review for a podcast, but since Sam called everyone out and I have some mildly useful feedback ... here we go! I absolutely love the format, concept, material covered in the podcast. I come from a family of entrepreneurs in the sense that most of my lineage has owned their own business. I have that drive in me, but not the proper guidance and mentorship that I’ve always dreamed of - (read as: Daniel San seeks Mr. Miyagi.) I had though of going around asking successful and inspirational individuals to see if I could just shadow them or ask some questions about what has led them to success. Even thought about creating a show or magazine. Shaun and Sam five is an inside look at what it takes to be a real successful entrepreneur. You can be that fly in the wall and hear amazing insight on what it takes. This has reignited my drive to do something incredible, not just for me and my family, but for the world. Thank you guys. The ONLY real gripe I have had since the beginning is the audio quality. In the beginning it was real bad, but they’ve definitely purchased better equipment/software, and maybe even have a sound/tech guy? The most recent episodes as of 7/1, have been remote due to Covid, and other things. Perhaps this is just unique to the current recording situation but, my issue now is just the extreme fluctuations in volume. I listen in my car through my car stereo. Sometimes Shaun’s soft and soothing voice is so calm and soothing, with some excited ups and downs. Sometimes it’s a little hard to hear Shaun or other guests so I crank the volume a little. Then I get BLASTED by Sam and have to turn the volume down. Hence the name of the review. I just learned the tensor tympani is the muscle in your ear that deadens the sound to protect your ear from loud noises. Some of us can even hear it as a rumbling or the sound of rolling thunder. Anyways, the TLDR is - I love the podcast and have probably listened to this more than any other. If there’s any possible way to somehow limit the spikes in volume or monitor that better it would be frickin fantastic. Thank you so much for the great work you do. -Chad

Random (and great)
Got tired of hearing all of the boring podcasts where people just have a guest I’ve heard before. Love the brainstorm episodes where 5-10 new startup ideas are examined in a short time frame. Great format, unique and enjoyable. - Ron @ OneHourProfessor.com

Like Sam’s attitude
Refreshing to hear Sam’s straight talking and candid questioning. Makes the discussions feel more like real ones and not like most podcasts that are crafted to preserve egos of guests.

Inspiring. Unvarnished. The real deal.
I subscribed to the Hustle for about a year before signing up for Trends - which is one of best investments in content you can make. And now love the no BS conversations Sam and Shaan have here. So much value every episode. My only wish is that I was 20 years younger but never too late to take this in.

New Favorite Podcast
I listen to dozens of podcast obsessively and My First Million has quickly become the one I look forward to the most. Quirky and very different from most generic interview podcasts where the guests try to sell their latest book/product for SEO points. Listening to Shaan and Sam riff off of each other and discuss new ideas helps get your creative juices going in an inspiring way. Thanks for the great content and motivation guys. Gerald @ GrepMed

Great Podcast
Great podcast. I’ve sent My first million to all my friends to listen to. The million dollar brains Storms are priceless! This podcast has inspired me to pick up an old project I was working on in 2015.

Digging this podcast
Shaan and Sam are phenomenal. I’m always learning and laughing when I tune into this show. Not your run of the mill business podcast. You must check this podcast out!

Reasons I listen
I'm an avid audiobook reader and i've avoided most podcasts due to how much conversational 'fluff' goes into the recording - it feels like a waste of time. Which brings me to my first reason i listen - I really appreciate how these guys keep a good clip going on the conversational path. I don't feel like i'm waiting around for the content. The other reason i love this podcast is the vulnerability. Honestly i wouldn't be back if the content was too glossy. I love hearing about failures, half-baked ideas and dead ends. I helps me identify them in my own life (failure teaches you more than success??). Lastly, i love how they are pulling back the curtain on how the internet works. Being in a large corporate environment all my career its not easy to understand how all the internet components work together. These guys show how you can continually jostle them into new ways creating value. Keep it up!

Great Podcasts
From Sam’s obsession in checking out business models from other countries to Shaan’s amazing mental models for evaluating businesses, this podcast is definitely worth it. Started listening to it recently, and it has opened my mind as to what’s possible with business: hat-tip to the episodes with Andrew Wilkinson of Tiny Capital.

I love the perspective and insight these guys bring every week!
I’ve been listening for a few months now and I am always impressed by what I learn. The different perspectives and reviews of trends and insightful interviews are amazing! They are fast paced and I frequently finding my self pausing what I’m doing to write down ideas or thoughts that come up as a result of their conversations. Thank you for letting us be a part of these conversations - keep up the good work!

A daily dose of motivation
Who the hell wants to listen to the run of the mill business podcast? Not me, and not many people. Yet, somehow, so many of business-minded podcasts are trite and bland. Not these guys. Seriously. They have really killer insight that is accessible. And, listening to it always motivates me to cross an extra thing off my list for the day. Do yourself a favor and subscribe to this. This is the first review I’ve written, too, FWIW.

Kind suggestion
Been a longtime listener of the podcast. I always liked to develop a little more on many ideas discussed in the podcast with my friends. It is great to hear about revolutionary new products and things like that. However, me being from Mexico, a country that’s always about 10 years behind of the USA, I think it would be awesome if you could talk about great ideas, products and business models that would be great to start in a third world country, ideas that if you could go back in time in you would absolutely look into. Great podcast, keep up the good work!

A podcast for the fast lane
A great podcast that offers a different perspective Bryan most business building podcast. I love the fast pace and quick topics. I know The Bay is the center of startups in investment dollars but it’s be interesting to spotlight other start up areas or how to make it in other places. Sam I love your commentary and mindset, but maybe tone down a bit on being “SF elite” we know who you are and that you’re successful. Let your guest and stories stand on their own and show who you know.

A seat at the table I wish I was at!
I love this show. Love the guests, the hot takes. I have my own idea generation times with my friends, but the ideas die there. So! One request! I want to know more about the process. I love all of the ideas that get thrown on the table, but how would you execute? What resources would you use? What research would you do and from what source? How would you raise the money? Pick an idea and then, hypothetically, create a plan. Be specific! “First Id create a mock up using blah blah, then I’d call ABC App Designers, I’d raise money by blah blah”. Rather than all of the thought exercises to come up with ideas like you guys do (so well), supplement by the exercise of planning the execution too! It would help to get in the habit of anticipating what that plan might look like when I have an idea of my own. IDK. I’m obsessed with y’all tho. Thank you for sharing the knowledge, experience and making other entrepreneurs stories available to me.

Fantastic!
Best podcast ever! Never fails to get you motivated to start executing on your ideas.

My New Favorite
Guys I’m binging this show and am going to need you to make a bunch more, okay? Love the ideas and the motivation! Keep it up we’ve never needed the positivity more!

Better show notes!
Hi guys, love the podcast and have listened from the beginning. Like most I listen while I drive and don’t have an opportunity to write things down. You recommend a lot of books and sites during the cast, but don’t list them in the show notes. Would make your podcast TWICE as valuable to me. Cheers!

Amazing Podcast But..
Edit 6.3.2020 Shaan and Sam have now pivoted the podcast to idea brainstorming and boy that made this podcast even better. I had posted the below mentioned feedback 6-9 months back with 5/5 rating but it isn’t valid anymore. They both are doing an amazing job and adding so much value than anything else I listen to. Can’t up the rating from 5, but I now consider this podcast literally the best podcast out there. Here is my other listening list for benchmark: HIBT, Invest like the best, Portal, The Journal..you get the idea. Best of luck guys👌🤜🤛❤️ ———Previously posted feedback below—- I absolutely loved the first few episodes of this podcast. The guests have amazing stories and Shaan does a great job anchoring discussion around how they got to their first million and what it was like(the feels). But you can forget all the above if he does not know the guest personally. I feel like the discussion is much more interesting and gripping when Shaan is friends with the guest(like the episode with the founder of Native) but super diluted otherwise. I would love to see this podcast do great hence the constructive criticism. Good luck Shaan!

Can’t get enough of MFM podcast
Love the pod. It’s awesome to hear Sam and Shaan “riff” on new ideas. Gets my creativeness flowing on ways to make money. You guys rock !

Brilliant!
This is such a cool podcast. You guys do a great job bringing new ideas and super interesting conversations every week. I feel like I know both of you by now!

Slight tweak.
Love it but here the phrase “you guys.” Or assumptions about a CEO being male. Please watch your lingo as I believe it’s somewhat sexist. Don’t believe it’s malicious or intended so that’s why I’m giving the constructive criticism

Worth your time
Guys- love what you do. Listening to you guys is like drinking knowledge through a fire hose. Love it.

Skills to pay the bills
Love this podcast bc they cover both macro trends, and micro-tactics that can get you started or help you 10x your business. Very actionable, funny, humble and just a flat out wild ride. Also, people from Missouri are crazy man. Full stop! Love it!!!

No more Jordan.
For the love of god... Please stop opening every other episode with a clip of Jordan “friend of the show” harbinger. Always have to question if I am accidentally playing a previously listened to episode. Other than that, love the brainstorm style.

You both are more libertarian than you realize!
Freedom, autonomy, the power of individual ideas and thought, this sounds like you two. I love you guys; you give honest evaluations and continually spin ideas plus implementation. Listening has radically changed my mindset and sales results...

all mic’d up
Changed to 5* now that your mic is better 👍

Great insight!
Love the guests and the no bull insight they bring to starting a business and exploring ideas. Helps me see the world for ideas as I strive for my first million.

Bather Skincare
Speechless 5/5 look out for my brand in the future ✨

Will Get You Thinking
Great content to expose yourself to a ton of different opportunities, content, people, and cool stuff you've probably never heard of or thought about. Feedback for Shaan and Sam: 1. Having guest on that allows you to dive deeper into thier specific expertise is interesting - more of that if possible 2. Looping back to previous trends and ideas from earlier episodes and reporting on what's changed may be insightful 3. A virtual live espisode where the audiance can submit questions/comments in real time may provide insight to topics/angles that resonate with the audiance that may have otherwised been breezed through Just a few thoughts. Keep sharing, great stuff!
